Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM), next to Ken Jernstedt Airfield in Hood River, set out to expand its 3.5-plus acres of indoor hangar space to house its ever-growing collection. The latest project with Centrex involved building a 50,000 SF hangar. Centrex provided comprehensive design and construction services.

KEN JERNSTEDT AIRFIELD
Ken Jernstedt Airfield (FAA 4S2) is a public general-aviation airport two miles south of downtown Hood River, Oregon, operated by the Port of Hood River. Covering roughly 120 acres at 638 feet elevation, it features a single 3,040-by-75-foot asphalt runway (07/25) with pilot-activated lighting and CTAF/UNICOM on 122.8 MHz. The field supports around 15,000 operations a year, offering hangars, tie-downs, self-serve fuel, flight training, and maintenance through FBO TacAero. Renamed in 2001 to honor WWII Flying Tigers ace and former Hood River mayor Ken Jernstedt, the airfield serves recreational and business aviation, medical transport, emergency services, and events such as WAAAM fly-ins—making it a vital gateway to the Columbia Gorge region.
